Lifespan is how long you live. Healthspan is how long you live without significant disease. CapabilitySpan is narrower and, I think, far more useful: the years in which you stay strong, fit, energetic, mobile and able to do the things you actually want to do.
Framed that way the priorities change. The goal stops being the avoidance of illness and becomes the protection of capability — strength, cardiovascular fitness, movement quality and the energy to use them. Nobody comes to the studio because they want a longer life. They come because they want to keep walking, carrying, travelling and playing with grandchildren without negotiating with their body first.
What extends CapabilitySpan
- Lifting weights as a permanent habit, not a project you pick up every few years.
- Getting your heart rate up most weeks, with the occasional session that leaves you puffing.
- Enough protein and enough quality in ordinary, everyday meals.
- Recovery and sleep treated as part of the plan, not a reward for it.
Think in decades. The decisions that shape your seventies are being made this month.
Those four areas are exactly what we measure and build in one-to-one sessions in the studio, and what we talk through in a Discovery Session.
- Identity
- Willingness
